Every year I have the honour of inviting you to the Manifesto For Legalization – The Free Hemp March, or otherwise known under the global name of The Million Marihuana March! We remember you as activists, fans of legalizing hemp, friends of Hemp Lobby, smokers, or other people who support health issues and effective drug politics. This is why we are informing you that we have already started organising this year’s edition of our party: 23rd May at 3pm the parade will meet in front of the Palace of Culture and Science in Poland’s capital, Warsaw. On that day people not only from Warsaw and Poland, but also from all over the world will meet to show their peaceful protest against the restrictive laws on marihuana.

The march is organised by responsible adults who respect human rights and who want to see equal legal status for alcohol, hemp and cigarettes. The aim of the manifest is not to encourage smoking, but to show the hypocrisy rife among leaders of government, as well as the fact that smokers of marihuana are friendly people with a sense of humour, who by making a conscious decision are thrown into prison and treated as criminals. We want society to accept and respect the right to use and grow hemp.

Six years ago, on 12th of June, we planted a hemp seed in front of the senate building of the Republic of Poland, which officially symbolised the beginning of our battle to change drug laws. Our battle still goes on, but the progress we have made shows there is a light at the end of the tunnel: therefore, we cannot let any chances slip away.

The inauguration of the march every year is the Open Seed action organised by the Free Hemp initiative. Open Seed gives seeds to Polish farmers from other Polish farmers and breeders. Every farmer can then take care of their own plants, using good products of known origin. In this way only the highest quality of crop is produced. Unfortunately many seeds are wasted as they enter the hands of irresponsible people who do not know how to grow them.

Open Seed is a social action that proves that individuals can yield their own produce that is safe and has been created by their own hard work and dedication. This allows people to avoid buying products of unknown origin with dangerous and harmful additives. Therefore, it is important that people have access to OS seeds, so they can have this choice, and to the information that is given together with them, to be enlightened about the issues of legalization and the right to choose. These are the matters the Free Hemp initiative deals with – showing the solidarity between Polish farmers and that we are not indifferent, we want change! It also highlights the importance of de-penalization: if individuals can grow produce for their own personal use, without doing anyone any harm, it is a matter of their own choice. However, this does not protect them from the law – if found in possession of plants and/or produce going to prison is the frightening reality of current legislation.

Take action today by sending this information out to friends and making it available to others. Ask yourself the question: What have I done towards legalization? The deceitful behaviour of the government is one problem, but the lack of knowledge of consumers is a problem we can solve together and quickly. Send this information out to your friends and people you know that would appreciate more information and a source of updates and facts on these issues.
